Would we go back? Maybe. The space was lovely - it felt like I was in someone's designer open plan kitchen and dining area. The coffee, juice and staff were great too... but the food was just so-so.

Would we go back? For sure! It wasn't the cheapest bento in town, but I left with a belly full of deliciousness - food that was of high quality and authentically Japanese. It's also a cute and intimate space. Thanks for the great find Chin!

Elsewhere in Beechworth...

Provenance, Beechworth

Degustation Menu $100

Optional starter $10 - House made silken tofu, soused seafood, wasabi, ginger

Beetroot, pancetta, fennel, pickled green fruits, blood cracker

Cured and smoked mackerel, radish and succulents, vanilla and green olive oil, desert limes

Cauliflower, confit potatoes, buttermilk, Yarra Valley salmon roe

Pork neck, tonkotsu sauce, braised daikon, okra, eggplant

Beef rump, cabbage, roast sake lees, onion, wild garlic capers, blackcurrant
Poached quince, roses, macaroon, rosemary, quinoa

Provenance was amazing - the quality and value completely surprised us, and it was easily one of the best meals we've had in a while. The only criticism would be the slightly slow pace of the meal, which took around 3 hours in total. Between the delicious food, the wine, the long pauses between courses, and the extremely warm dining room, we were close to falling asleep towards the end. But we would happily do it all again, and certainly wouldn't hesitate to take the long drive to Beechworth for this restaurant alone.
