Shortstop Coffee and Donuts - Melbourne, Victoria

Australian Honey & Sea Salt (Cruller, $4.00): Crisp on the outside, light and airy inside – this donut is delicate yet structured. Dipped in a simple glaze made of local honey and organic milk, and then topped with fine flakes of salt. Pairs perfectly with a black filtered coffee. Also featuring the New Orleans Ice Coffee (Cruller, $4.00) in the background (my personal favourite).

Earl Grey and Rose (Cake, $4.50): We love tea and while we have chosen to focus on just coffee & donuts, we still wanted to sneak some delicious tea leaves onto our menu. Our dough is mixed with Earl Grey tea before being injected with lemon myrtle and dipped into a rose water and rose petal icing. Fragrant and beautifully balanced.

Peanut Butter and Jam (Filled, $5.00): Somehow, the flavour combination of peanut butter & jam has yet to imprint itself in the Australian lunchbox. We think this donut will change that! We take a light and pillowy ball of dough, fill it with our house made jam and dip it in a chunky peanut butter glaze. Try this donut and you won’t be able to picture your lunchbox without it.

Also featuring the Bourbon Creme Brûlée (Filled, $5.00): A donut for grown ups. We take a ball of dough, fill it with a vanilla pastry cream that has been spiked with a generous dash of bourbon, coat the surface in sugar and torch until perfectly crisp.

A bite of the New Orleans Ice Coffee (Cruller, $4.00)

Verdict? I didn't love the cake or filled donuts, but I loved the crullers - especially the New Orleans Iced Coffee cruller. Would happily go back to try out some new flavours, and to brighten the work day by sharing some donut love with my colleagues in the office!
